Am 62 years old and self-taught. I try to stay humble by not calling myself an artist. I let others decide that.
Did a stint for a year at The Institute of Art- San Diego. Good people but the curriculum wasn't what I was looking for.
I finally did find what I was looking for in the school I presently attend though, Watts Atelier of the Arts. A school of traditional, industry artists who teach a wide range of subjects, with no worries about having to take basic education classes to get a degree I am not looking to get.
It's simply a school that will train me to satisfy a childhood urge to consistently improve my artistic skills.
